Delhi's 100th Birthday as Capital Of India

Before we welcome 2012 with open arms, 2011 still has something to offer as an Indian and more so a Delhiite. New Delhi, the Capital city of Republic Of India celebrates 100 years of being proud Capital of the nation that world envies from the day of its existence.

Its Delhi's 100th Birthday as Capital of India and the government of Delhi has made several arrangement to cherish this moment. e.g Food festival at Cannaught Place, Theatre Festival at Sri Ram Centre etc etc

Delhi's Journey to become Capital of India - On December 12, 1911 George V, the then Emperor of India, along with Queen Mary, his Consort, made the announcement that the capital of the Raj was to be shifted from Calcutta to Delhi, while laying the foundation stone for the Viceroy's residence in the Coronation Park, Kingsway Camp.




From Pandavas to Mughals to British, who ever has come to Delhi, has fallen in love with this city making it their mainstay. The Britishers chose Delhi over Calcutta for a very simple reason that they thought ruling India was better from here.

Home to over 130 foreign embassies and center of Political scenario, with Parliament here, in India, Delhi has always been a star studded diamond in India's Turban.

Several immensely popular tourist destinations like India Gate, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Dilli Haat, Cannaught Place etc .. adds to tourism buying capacity of this beautiful city. The national museum in Delhi is the largest museum in India. Coming of Metro to capital - a rapid train transit system has added to its charm. Delhi Metro being one of the largest networks in the world.

The distinct culture, the world famous street food and its ever open arms accepting people from all over India is what makes it even more admirable. 

They say, Delhi never sleeps but it allows anyone to sleep in its lap.

  2. I feel there is nothing to be proud about this. Can a girl walk alone in the streets of Delhi? Everyday, we hear so many cases of crime in Delhi, then how this 100th birthday as capital of India call for celebration?

    bad elements are present in every city and one or two unsafe places in Delhi does not make entire city bad.

  4. ya, its great that delhi has completed 100 yrs but still corruption, and gang cases only present in Delhi, its not at all safe for a grls.........
