After, WhatsApp struck off BBM from messaging world, it shall soon bring in a feature which shall allow its users to
integrate their Facebook account with the world's top messaging app. The
description put against this update states that the integration will "improve Facebook
experiences."
The
version 2.12.413 of WhatsApp for Android reveals company's
intention to allow users to link the messaging service with their respective
Facebook account, as spotted by Android developer Javier Santos.
The new addition, as seen in the screenshot, appears on the Account settings of the app,
and queries users whether they want to share their WhatsApp account information
with Facebook. Evidently, its optional.
Facebook acquired
WhatsApp in a billion dollar deal in 2014. Post acquisition, it was always on the cards to have FB and WhatsApp share features on both platforms.
It still remains to be seen if public, at large, would accept this integration since WhatsApp's USP has been its simplicity. Anything to do with tampering of this simplicity may or may not go down well with the users.
