7 things that Android can and iOS 7 can't

June 13, 2014

Just last month, Apple's CEO Tim Cook proudly mentioned that only 8.5% android users are using latest version of Android i.e. Kitkat while 74% iPhone users are using iOS7.

What he didn't mention was that there is not a lot of difference between Android 4.3 and 4.4 version. Both of them together account for 72% of the total market.

What he didn't mention was that not all android phones are 4.3/ 4.4 compatible. So, if you take into account only compatible phones - the number shoots up from 72% to 90%+.

It is beyond question that it's Android that's driving the smartphone revolution across globe and not iOS. Also, Android offers 7 big advantages over iOS.

1. Transfer files using WIFI Direct

WIFI Direct gives an unparalleled advantage of transferring files which are huge in size. Transferring files with data size as huge as 1GB takes few minutes. Since the phones connect directly to each other, no WIFI network is not needed.

2. Near Field Communication a.k.a NFC

With NFC, you just need to make two devices tap together to pair. It can be used instead of Bluetooth to transfer data. It primarily works on the principle of sending radio waves.

3. Connect using OTG

One of the biggest if not THE biggest advantage of having an android phone over an iPhone is plug n play. You just have to plug in your device to your laptop, dongle, pen drive, TV etc and it automatically detects the device and lists compatible features.

This is a major roadblock in iOS wherein one has to follow rigid ways to transfer music and videos or connect to TV.

4. Change Keyboards

Android platform is like vacant land on which you can construct palace of your choice and design. It gives you numerous options to change your keyboards and have options like Swype and SlideIT. Not only these keyboards suggest words, they also learn your writing style and offer multiple options.

5. Change everything including the looks

While every iOS phone looks exactly same, the vacant land gives you option to customize every bit of your phone. Given the number of launchers available on play store and widget option, android has everything to suit everyone's need and taste.

6. Block SMS/ Calls

Sadly iOS doesn't give you option to block SMS/ Calls neither does it give easy/ free access to apps that help you control or manage unwanted SMS/ Calls. On the other hand, android lets you take entire control of managing unwanted SMS/ Calls via number of 'free' apps available.

7. Control all the data on your smartphone

Android platform gives you lot more options to manage your data via file explorer. It also gives you three times more option to share data to almost every platform present.

In the recent updates brought to iOS, it is very evident that iOS is borrowing features from android esp the one like pulling menu from top. If you still think iOS scores over Android, do let me know.
